StackAware and Mastermind: accelerating accredited ISO 42001 certification
Connecting AI governance expertise with independent certification audits.
StackAware is proud to announce our partnership with Mastermind! Through the combination of our organizations, we will build and certify Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS) for our clients in conformance with ISO/IEC 42001:2023 to:
Manage risk
Build trust with verifiable, accredited certification
Comply with emerging laws, regulations, and sector-specific rules
The rapid evolution of AI systems brings with it a promise of enhanced productivity and value delivery. But these technologies bring new risks like:
Model collapse
Societal disruption
Meanwhile, a growing web of regulations like both the European Union’s (EU) and Colorado’s AI Act threaten penalties for irresponsible AI use.
Fortunately, the ISO 42001 standard fills this gap in the trust marketplace and will help companies manage these challenges through a consolidated AI governance framework. From our experience helping AI-powered companies operate safely and securely, on top of our own ISO 42001 journey, StackAware is well-positioned to guide others through the certification process.
In July 2024, Mastermind announced the issuance of the world’s first accredited ISO 42001 certificate alongside its award as the first certification body to obtain accreditation for this new scheme. This expansion of accreditation was reviewed and decided by the International Accreditation Service (IAS), a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and recognized signatory of the Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA).
Mastermind leverages a team of Lead Auditors based in the United States with aggregate experiences from hundreds of certification assessments against popular ISO standards like ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 across multiple, accredited certification bodies.
By partnering with Mastermind, our customers benefit from a formal certification body partner familiar with the outputs and capabilities of StackAware while fast-tracking progression to both Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits and, ultimately, a certificate decision.
David Forman, Chief Executive Officer at Mastermind, added “This partnership serves as evidence of the inherent synergies between StackAware’s offerings and Mastermind’s mission for democratizing trust within AI technologies. As StackAware continues to refine its services throughout its own initiative to certify to ISO 42001, we are intrigued by the future for this purpose-built accelerator that will uplevel current management systems to adequately address new risks.”
